Council update: Feb 2023

As you may have heard, Council unanimously voted its opposition to Bill 23 which will take local power away from deciding planning while reducing environmental considerations and downloading development costs to local residents.

Balancing growth and development with keeping our small town feel and sense of community is an ongoing challenge for our area including here in Ward 3. Council has also been updated on the development of the City’s Growth Management Strategy. The task force includes Sturgeon Point resident Chris Appleton and The Mooring‘s Gene Balfour. Budget deliberations continue at Council until March. Please feel free to attend Council in person or watch the meetings online.

Councillor Service

In addition to serving local residents and making decisions at Council, your Ward 3 Councillor has been appointed to serve on the boards of:

  • our local public health unit;

  • not-for-profit housing corporation;

  • Victoria Manor nursing home;

  • the Lindsay airport;

  • PowerLinks;

  • the Fenelon land fill site;

  • Maryboro Lodge (Fenelon museum); and

  • the Fenelon cemetery.

This work is part of my duties as Councillor.

New Open Office Hours

I think people should be able to access their councillor, and customer service was a key commitment during my campaign. So beginning on Jan 30th, I will be hosting open office hours every Monday morning, splitting my time between City Hall and the Fenelon Library. I invite you to drop by and talk to me if you have - no appointments necessary! However, I will continue to do house calls and appointments as needed.
