New family health nurse for Fenelon Falls
A family health nurse has been placed at the medical centre in Fenelon Falls as part of the new City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team.
With a background in community health, Kylie Pankhurst, will help patients with many health issues and assist with routine medical procedures.
“I am really enjoying my role in Fenelon as part of the new Family Health Team,” stated Ms Pankhurst, who previously worked in the area at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Bobcaygeon and with recently retired Dr. Martin Young in Fenelon Falls. “As a family health nurse, I am able to see patients for some visits and monitor them and follow their care. I will also prepare patients when they need to see the doctor.”
Fenelon medical centre physician and health team member Dr. Bruce Allin stated the having a family health nurse on the team is a benefit to residents, helping them access more care, sooner and giving Dr. Allin more time to spend with patients.
Based on successful models across the province, Family Health Team professionals such as family health nurses are provided to work with family doctors who are also members of the team. Family doctors remain involved in all patients’ care.
