To counter the 'anxious generation' more unstructured playtime is needed
As we begin 2025, there is a 101 of discussion about the health of our children and youth. Last year, Jonathan Haidt released a thought-provoking book called The Anxious Generation, which argues that over the last 20 years or so, a "phone-based" childhood has replaced a "play-based" childhood. Over the next couple of months in this column, I'll share more about what we're learning about the implications of this change.
